When your plants start to flower, they need the right nutrients to form fruits and stay strong. This guide helps you mix one dry fertilizer blend for all your crops, then adjust how much you use based on the plant type.
Why this matters
During flowering, plants use more phosphorus and potassium. These nutrients help with:
- Strong flowers
- Better fruit set
- Healthier roots
If your tomatoes are flowering, your cucumbers climbing, and your basil is bursting with aroma — it’s the perfect time to give your garden a nutrient boost! Here's how to group your crops and create targeted fertilizer “cocktails” using simple teaspoons and tablespoons per gallon of water.
Group 1: Fruiting & Flowering Plants

Tomatoes, Basil, Peppers, Cucumbers, Zucchini, Melons
These heavy feeders crave phosphorus, potassium, boron, and microbial support to:
- set strong flowers 🌸
- hold fruit 🍅
- boost essential oil content in herbs like basil 🌿
- deliver a rich harvest 🍈
Fruiting & Bloom Boost Cocktail (per 1 gallon water):
- Monopotassium Phosphate (KH₂PO₄) – ½ tsp
- Dr. Earth 4-6-3 Organic Fertilizer – 1 tbsp
- TPS Microbes (Mycorrhizae + Bacillus) – ½ tsp
- Citric Acid – a pinch (to lower pH slightly to ~6.2)
- Boron – ⅛ tsp (once every 10 days)
- Diluted Urine – 1 tsp (every 2 weeks only)
🕒 Apply every 7–10 days.
Note: Basil prefers moderate feeding — avoid overuse of nitrogen sources like urine. Apply this mix lightly when feeding shared beds.
Group 2: Root Vegetables

Carrots, Beets, Onion
Root crops require a gentle touch — they prefer:
- light phosphorus and potassium
- microbe support
- no excess nitrogen
Root Support Cocktail (per 1 gallon water):
- Monopotassium Phosphate – ¼ tsp
- Dr. Earth Fertilizer – ½ tbsp
- TPS Microbes – ½ tsp
- Citric Acid – a pinch
- ❌ No Urine! (Excess nitrogen reduces root quality)
🕒 Apply every 10–14 days.
Group 3: Leafy Greens & Legumes

Peas, Lettuce
These tender crops love:
- soft organic feeding
- microbial protection
- minimal potassium & nitrogen
Gentle Green Growth Cocktail (per 1 gallon water):
- Dr. Earth Fertilizer – 1 tbsp
- TPS Microbes – ½ tsp
- Citric Acid – a pinch
- ❌ No monopotassium phosphate or urine
🕒 Apply every 10–14 days.
Rain and Feeding Tips
If you already watered and light rain is expected, go ahead and fertilize. The soil is moist, and nutrients will absorb well.
If heavy rain is coming soon, wait. It could wash nutrients away.
